Bus-Tops
Cultural Olympiad · 2012
Bus-Tops placed 30 red LED screens on the rooftops of bus shelters across 20 London boroughs for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Passengers on the upper decks of double-decker buses could view digital art displayed on the screens below. Created with artist Paula Le Dieu, it was one of 12 Artists Taking the Lead commissions selected from across England.
Anyone in the world could submit artwork via the project’s website. The screens measured approximately 1.75m by 1.3m, powered by BeagleBoard computers running custom software with 3G connections. The frames were made from trees felled during Olympic construction at the Stratford site.
Featured artist commissions included work by Jasmina Cibic. The project ran from January to September 2012 and was covered by The Next Web, The Drum, and Londonist.
